Update on the "other" swimming Richards. My big brother Dan (age 53) successfully completed the English Channel on 20 July 2010 in a fast 12 hours, 32 minutes. It was an absolutely stunning day in the Channel, sunny with not a ripple on the water.
We are now the only brothers and just 2nd set of siblings to have successfully complete both the English and Catalina Channels in a solo swim.
Bravo to Dan.
It looks like I have to start training for my future swims as my time coaching is now over for a while.
2011 looks like it will be a year of at least 1, if not 2, major long swims for me.

- Scott B. "The Yesdoc" Richards, MD resides in San Elijo Hills, CA and is the father of 2 sons, Thomas and Dylan. On 09 July 2007, he became only the 18th person in history to complet the “triple crown” of open water distance swimming as he swam the English Channel in 13 hours 20 minutes. Prior to the English Channel attempt, he successfully completed the 28.5 mile Manhattan Island Marathon Swim (NY City) on 24 June 2006 and then on 20 September 2006 swam the Catalina Channel in just over 10 hours. A 1977 Cum Laude graduate of Pine Crest School, Fort Lauderdale, FL where he was an All State high school swimmer for four years, he holds a BA in Psychology from Marshall university (Summa Cum Laude, class of 1982) earning All Southern Conference swimming status his senior year. Medical School training at Temple University (‘86) was followed with a residency in Psychiatry and Fellowship in Mood and Eating Disorders, both done at Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston. He served in the US Air Force as a staff Psychiatrist from 1990-1992 and currently practices Psychiatry with specialty in Eating Disorders for the Kaiser Permanente Medical Group in Vista, CA.
